We’d like to thank Jake Martens for the phenomenal article he wrote for @theuspsa magazine. For those of you with a USPSA membership you can login and see the full article now in the digital September edition, or you’ll have it in hand within a couple weeks.

The September 11 attacks changed the United States

The September 11 attacks changed the United States of America, and the rest of the world forever.

It propelled the world into a Global War on Terrorism. The United States officially invaded Afghanistan on October 19, 2001. A small group of no more than 40 Americans, combined with a united Afghan front, led the initial fight and paved the way for the defeat of the Taliban regime a little more than 2 months later.

These Americans, many of them young men and women, answered the call to duty immediately, and voluntarily put themselves in harm's way to avenge the 2,977 victims who died during 9/11. Many of those who died that day, similarly answered the call to duty and immediately rushed to Ground Zero to help their fellow American. They gave their lives in hopes that others would live and make it back home to their families.

The effects of the events which transpired that day still loom, and still, patriots, not just from the United States, dedicate themselves to facing evil in the face of death, without regard for their own safety. These people live to make sure those who go after them can live happily, safely, and freely.

Remember those who died during 9/11, and those who sacrificed so much in the days, months, and years following that day. 🇺🇸
